Mom Tried to Retire After One Pickleball Rally
Mom announced her retirement from pickleball after one rally. Her return hit the net, bounced straight back, and somehow the wind got blamed. Her daughter laughed so hard she missed the next serve.
“You can’t retire yet,” her daughter said. “You owe me a rematch.”
They had been trying to find a free morning together for weeks. The park courts were bright and busy, but for once neither of them needed to be anywhere else. Mom began celebrating points she hadn’t won. Her daughter kept score with suspicious generosity. They stayed for another game because going home could wait.
By the end, Mom sat in the shade, still making a case that the wind had cost her the match. Her daughter looked at the paddle resting beside her. She was glad they had finally made room for this morning, and she wanted them both to feel good about doing it again.
She had prepared a skin spray with Infusion Hygienic Concentrate before coming to the park. After playing, she sprayed her skin as part of the routine she could carry into the rest of her day. Mom held out her hand for the bottle, then tried to claim the spray was her secret to winning the rematch.
“You haven’t won it yet,” her daughter said.
That was the good part. There would be a rematch. Caring for the skin she trained in wasn’t a separate project waiting for a more serious day; it fit into the ordinary joy of showing up, playing hard, and heading home together.
Mom picked up her paddle and asked about next Saturday before they had even reached the car. Her daughter said yes. Whatever the wind decided to do, they were coming back.
