When Your Sister Finally Says Yes to a Ruck
By the time they reach the ridge, he realizes his sister has stopped finishing her sentences. She finally joined him on one of his Sunday rucks, and the long walk had given them room to talk in a way their hurried phone calls never did.
Then he notices her lifting one shoulder away from her pack strap. The friction has broken the skin beneath it. She says she can keep going, but he takes off his own pack and sits beside the trail. He invited her because he wanted this time together, not because he needed her to finish a route.
She has NutriCore Vital in her pack. She sprays the tender area directly, without pressing or rubbing it. Its apple cider vinegar begins cleaning on contact, and the formula is built to fight microbial threats at the break in her skin. Out here, that no-touch response matters: she can care for it now instead of enduring the strap until they get home.
Their packs rest on the ground while she finishes what she was telling him. He listens, then takes off one boot and winces. The weighted miles have rubbed a blister open at his heel. “Can I borrow that spray?” he asks. She passes it over and waits while he sprays the tender spot.
The walk gave them what they came for: time to look after each other, even if they choose a shorter way back.
