The Mad Scientist Who Told the World No

Brian Armer

On his twenty-third birthday, Brian Armer blacked out after a Jiu-Jitsu competition. He had pushed through a heavy week at college, stepped onto the mat, and fought.

Then the hospital found non-Hodgkin lymphoma around his lungs, heart, esophagus, and into his jaw. The doctors gave him one month.

Brian gave them three words.

“NA, WE FIGHT.”

The month became a ten-year adventure.

THE MONSTER EXISTED BEFORE THE COMPANY DID

Brian had been training and fighting since he was fifteen. Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and mixed martial arts were not hobbies waiting politely outside the hospital room. They were part of how he understood survival.

When his body could not do everything it had done before, music carried another part of the weight. He fronted bands, sang, and stayed connected to purpose through sound, movement, brotherhood, and the stubborn refusal to let a diagnosis become his entire identity.

Zombie Sport Co did not come from somebody studying athletes from a safe distance. It came from somebody who knew what it meant to need the next round.

THEN LIFE ASKED FOR MORE

Brian spent years running facilities for Chevron North American Exploration and Production, where responsibility, systems, and critical thinking were not inspirational phrases. They were the job.

That work led into operating a microbiological microturbine reactor site, using microbiology to help create energy, power a treatment process, and return non-potable water to safe human use. Science was no longer something trapped in a textbook. It was a living system of inputs, reactions, consequences, and proof.

During that chapter, Brian also faced one of the deepest losses of his life. The woman he planned to marry, a chemical engineer fighting breast cancer, died on the day they were to be married.

There is no clever Halloween line for that. There is only the truth: grief can end a story, or it can become part of the reason somebody refuses to waste what comes next.

THE MAD SCIENTIST WENT TO WORK

Brian had seen what people call “just a scratch” become something much larger. He had seen staph infection push a person toward death, and he had seen infection and necrosis threaten a limb.

He could not stop asking the question that had followed him through fighting, cancer, facilities, microbiology, music, and loss:

What if there is a better way?

He researched plant extracts, essential oils, butters, waxes, and natural ingredients. He tested combinations, changed them, and tested again. He also, in his own words, nearly napalmed his face off several times.

Not every origin story gets a clean white laboratory coat. Some get trial, error, smoke, stubbornness, and a person who refuses to call “good enough” finished.

WHAT THE YEARS OF WORK WERE BUILT TO CONNECT

  • Early response: Care that is close when skin first breaks instead of remembered after the moment has grown.
  • Microbial-threat support: Formulas designed around the real environments where athletes, workers, families, and active people live.
  • Barrier and skin support: Oils, butters, waxes, and botanicals working in coordinated layers rather than as one isolated trick.
  • Recovery and return: Care built around the life waiting tomorrow, not only the wound visible today.

That thinking became Zombie Sport Co. Not one magic ingredient, one audience, or one easy moment. A complete system for people and animals whose lives keep moving.

THE LAB CAME AFTER THE LIGHTNING

Passion started the work. Testing created a measurable standard. Zombie products are made in small batches and supported by third-party laboratory testing that documents microbiological safety and freedom from the tested contaminants covered by that testing.

The company does not ask the story to do the science’s job. It lets the story explain why the science had to matter.

THE CLOCK NEVER GOT THE LAST WORD

One month became years. The fighter became a survivor. The singer became a facilities leader. The operator became a formulator. The grief became purpose. The experiments became a company.

And the mad scientist behind the Monster? He is still asking what could be built if “good enough” stopped being the finish line.

Zombie Sport Co began when one man told the clock no. Everything since has been built for the people still fighting for tomorrow.
